The Wild State. Animals in the Collections of the MAMCS and the Zoological Museum
The wild state. Animals in the collections of the MAMCS and the Zoological Museum
An inexhaustible source of inspiration, the animal world has populated artistic creation since its origins, starting with the earliest cave paintings.
The ambiguous relationship between humans and other species is revealed in all its complexity, between fascination, otherness, and dependence, despite the evolution of our view of living beings over time. Long reduced to the status of objects or wild beasts, animals are increasingly coming to the fore thanks to a shift in focus from humans to the ecosystem as a whole. This awareness is reflected in the concerns of artists, who are privileged witnesses to the richness of biodiversity.
To mark the reopening of the Zoological Museum, the project brings together specimens from naturalist collections with works from the MAMCS that have a deep connection with living things.
